2010 Trout Stocking Program

smalltroutinpond.jpgFish Stocking Program Sponsored by the Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District

Here are the details:

  • Orders will be taken until Thursday, May 10th
  •  Trout will be forfeited if they are not picked up during the allotted time frame.
  •  6-8" Fish will need to be picked up at Agway in Brattleboro at 1:00 pm on May 15
  • 10-12" Fish - Due to the cost of fuel, deliveries will be made in coordination with the supplier and the District.  No set day or time can be made in advance.  We will notify you on the day of anticipated delivery. Please include cell phone numbers (if available) so we can work together to make these deliveries in a timely manner.

Before stocking, check your pond for suitability for trout. Water depth should be at least 8 feet. (This can be measured with a weighted rope.) Your pond’s water should be clear (clear enough, for example, to see a white 10” diameter object at a depth of 6 feet or more.) And the bottom temperature in the summer shouldn’t exceed 68 degrees F. Rainbows can tolerate warmer water than brook trout.

Please download the PDF form below. Fill it out completely and enclose a detailed map showing directions to your property and pond.

20th Annual Conservation District Plant Sale

plantsale.jpgWelcome to the 20th Annual Windham County Conservation District's Annual Plant Sale.

  • Orders will be taken until April 12th.
  • Order early as supplies of some plants are limited. Pick-up of stock will be from 9 - 12 on April 24th in the Natural Resources Department at the Trade and Industrial Center (TIC). The District will not be responsible for stock once it is removed from the pick-up site and reserves the right to refund money for stock that becomes unavailable. No refunds will be made on any orders not picked up by the designated date.

We hope you'll enjoy the selection of planting stock which we are offering this year.

Our current offerings seek to highlight plants for their landscape value, conservation value, and food value, both for ourselves and our feathered friends. We have also tried to focus on providing mostly native plants for our shrub varieties in an effort to combat the spread of invasives. The description we are using to identify native plants is they are plants growing in North America prior to European settlement or present in our region for at least 100 years and for which there is no evidence of exotic origin.
